    KV DuongArtist: KV Duong

KV Duong is a London based painter and action artist. His work focuses on personal identity, war migration, sexuality and human relationships. He draws from personal experiences having grown up in Saigon and Toronto, and is now living in London, to explore the integration and conflict of Eastern and Western cultures and values.

His art making involves ripping and overlaying various images of previous paintings, historic images of the Vietnam war, photographs of the artist’s body painting performances, and layering paint on top to build new narrative while revealing some of the work’s history. Topics of war migration and the Asian diaspora are examined through his family’s experiences of cultural assimilation in Canada as a minority immigrant family, and his own subset of integration growing up as a gay Asian male.

KV’s body painting performances further reveal the vulnerability of his life experiences. The intimacy and interaction of skin, canvas and paint is explored in both his live and studio paintings.

KV has exhibited nationally and internationally and has had several solo shows in London: Streatham Space Project, RB12, and WSP Design Studio Residency. Selected group exhibitions and prizes include Derwent Art Prize, Curious Duke Gallery’s Secret Art Prize, It’s Art Call competition at After Nyne Gallery, ArtRooms, Winter and Summer Salon at Concept Space. KV was a profiled artist on the BBC’s Royal Academy Summer Exhibition Programme in 2019. His work is held in several private collections globally including Ashurst London Headquarter.
