Porcelain with gold lustre wall piece

W44 x H32 x D3 framed

Jenny has a fascination with masks as she has don many in her past. She makes masks for carthatic relief and to reconcile her past with her current path. Her masks explore cultural references and inspirational influences, and represent the choices we can make rather than being foisted on us. This work is looks back to her Eastern Buddhist past and present, and how the image of Buddha has seeped into Western popular culture.

Artist Jenny ChanArtist: Jenny Chan

Jenny Chan is a self-taught ceramic artist based in Sheffield, Yorkshire. She was born in Hong Kong and arrived in the UK in 2014 via Naura, Singapore and the Middle East. Her journey into ceramics is as eventful as her life from international ex-pat to UK resident. It started as an escape from depression, giving her focus, peace and fulfilment. In just three short years, Jenny was selected for the Crafts Council UK Hothouse 2019 Programme and became a member of Design Nation. Along the way, she has garnered commendations and awards for her unique and thought-provoking ceramic sculptures and has been invited to participate in numerous fairs and exhibitions.

With meticulous and reflective craftsmanship, Jenny creates unique figurative sculptures each with their own facial expression and backstory. Her work is intriguingly detailed, undeniably touched by her Chinese origins. Using traditional hand-building techniques in coiling and slab building, each piece is unique and individually sculpted. No two pieces are the same.
