Kate's Place

Jerry Holsopple, 2010

Infrared photography

Edition: 20

Kate's Place was taken in a park built for Katherine the Great in Tallinn, Estonia. This work was composed and shot with the Leica M8 with a visible light-blocking filter on the lens recording the infrared light.

It is available on lustre/gloss photographic paper or emulsion pulls on Arches 88 silkscreen paper where the image is printed first on plastic transfer film, soaked in alcohol and transferred to the paper. Each emulsion pull is unique because of differences in wetness and how the inks are moved/pushed onto the paper. The aim is not for perfection but to give the image more texture.

"I am fascinated by what can’t be seen in the landscapes of the Baltics. I could be considering the hidden history of oppressive pain with the shafts of hope, but I am referring to part of the light spectrum the eye can’t see. I try to imagine the trees and grass turning white and the sky darkening. The image may be close to what I imagined but usually I see the place in a new way."

These stunning images are now available on MintARTS.
