Our Flag Is Still Here
Laura Fishman, 2020
Acrylic on canvas framed
Size: W60 x H42 x D3.5cm
Laura uses her signature bold brushstrokes, drips and pours in multiple layers to produce a distinct take on the Stars and Stripes. The result is a stunning and visually engaging but distorted American flag as a symbol of the political situation in America and the world at large. Our Flag Is Still Here was part of the series of work produced as a response to the #FakeNews exhibition at Offshoot Gallery in North London in March 2020, to challenge our perceptions and beliefs through language, identity, consumer culture, sustainability, climate change, inequality and immigration in the era of "Fake News".

Artist: Laura Fishman
Laura Fishman's artistic vision is to connect with the viewer through the language of colour and paint, and to convey her experiences. With bold brushstrokes, drips and pours, she intuitively works opaque and translucent layers to produce surfaces that are beautifully textured, sublimely multi-coloured and visually engaging.
Laura earned her Bachelor of Fine Art in Painting in her native United States from the State University of New York where she studied figurative and abstract painting. She continued her studies in textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and earned her MA Fine Art at Middlesex University, London. She remains active with artist communities, exhibitions and associations in the United Kingdom and in the United States. Her work can be found in private and corporate collections in the UK, US, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Middle East.
